Optical Properties of Copper Impurities in CdCl_2 and CdBr_2

Luminescence bands due to Cu" ions are found at 2.77 eV and 3.13 eV inCdBr. and at 1.75 eV, 2.85 eV and 3.30 eV in CdClz. Tl'nermal characteristicsof these bands are analysed by rate equations. Optical extinction bands due tocopper colloid are found at 1.90 eV and 2.10 eV in CdBr. and CdCl., respec-tively. Existence of an electron trap with the depth of 0.47 eV is proposed in theprocess of Cu":Cu" in CdBr.. Refractive indices of CdCl. and CdBr. aremeasured in the wave-length range from 350 nm to 600 nm.
