Rippled Phase and Critical Point of a System Showing Commensurate-Incommensurate Phase Transition

A rippled phase appearing between commensurate and in commensurate phases has properties similar to those of the incommensurate one, and accordingly a critical point between these periodic phases is shown to exist. The existence of tetracritical point is proved. Phase diagrams of the concerned system in an external field thermodynamically conjugate to an order parameter are obtained.
