Phase transitions in an assembly of four-state systems are investigated to propose a mechanism of the sublattice magnetization observed in uranium tri-iodine (UI_3). It is shown how the values taken by state variable of a component system effect on the phase transition. Under a certain condition the assembly shows such a behaviour as observed in UI_3. Furthermore, it is shown that various types of phase transition occur, depending on the condition for the state variable ; viz., a transition of second order, that of first order, successive transitions of second and first orders. A particular type of second order transition also appears, with extraordinary critical indices.
