Experimental Study on Soft X-Ray Radiation Emitted from a Laser-Heated Gold Cavity

Time evolution of soft X-ray radiation emitted from a gold cavity which is heated by intense laser light is studied. The X-ray emission from a cavity wall which is irradiated either directly or indirectly by laser light is observed. Comparison of the observed spectra with the calculated spectra indicated that the low-density plasma which fills the cavity makes an important contribution to the X-ray emission in the energy region above $\sim 500$ eV. The rise time of the X-ray emission from the indirectly heated surface is determined by the period of time required to form the radiation-heated zone.
