A rapid determination method of total bilirubin contents with a very small amount of serum contaminating hemoglobin is required for icteric hemolytic newborns. 1-3)<BR>For this purpose, a new instrument was developeded for total bilirubin determination, by which the absorbance due to hemoglobin is cancelled electrically, and the total bilirubin value is read directly in order of mg/dl and rapidly without influences of hemoglobin. The present instrument requires only 10 minutes for the whole procedure. Data from this instrument give good coefficients of correlation with those from other generally used methods.
