A method for the synthesis of <I>cis</I>-jasmone from 5,6-dihydro-2<I>H</I>-thiopyran is described. Formation of <I>cis</I>-2-pentenyl moiety was achieved by reductive desulfurization of the 2<I>H</I>-thiopyran derivative obtained by the alkylation of 5,6-dihydro-2<I>H</I>-thiopyran with epichlorohydrin.
