A Case Report of Severe Thoracic Tuberculous Kyphosis with Rapid Progression of Paraplegia Associated with Ossification of the Yellow Ligament.

We reported a case of severe thoracic tuberculous kyphosis which rapidly progressed to paraplegia associated with ossification of the yellow ligament the patient was a seventy-one-year old woman who noticed the onset of polyarthralgia and back pain. We performed an emergency operation on her for acute myelopathy with curettage and anterior spinal body fusion, as she was close to developing complete paralysis by the twelfth day after onset. She recovered and was able to start sitting by the second month after surgery and was able to walk alone by the fifth month after surgery. In general most paraplegia due to caries is slowly progressive and is incomplete, but in this case, paraplegia was rapidly progressive and complete due to the accompanying severe kyphosis and ossification of the yellow ligament.
