End-results of Colles' fracture - With special references of the elderly patients.:with Special References of the Elderly Patients

Among 82 patients treated in the last 16 years, 39 cases of the Colles' fracture over 65 years old were followed and the types of fractures were classified according to the Frykman's classification. The results were as follows: 20 cases were excellent, 9 were good, 9 were fair and 1 was poor. The influencing factors on the results were shortening of the radius, radial tilt and dorsal angulation.Especially, the shortening of the radius was most influential in the clinical end-results. It was found to be difficult to prevent another deformity after first treatment, however, only a few complaints were found regardless of the severe deformity. We have to pay much attention to preventing contractures of the fingers and shoulder joints in elderly patients.
