We treated 3 cases of the lumber disc herniation extruded to the dorsal epidural space. The reports of such cases are rare in Japan. 14 cases have been reported including our cases of our own. They were 13 men and one woman. Their ages ranged from 36 to 75 years with an average of 52.3.4 extruded herniations were located at L3/4 level, and 2 cases each at L2/3, L4/5 and L5/S level respectively.We performed surgical removal of this tumor, and the clinical result was satisfactory. MRI was useful for a diagnosis of these cases. There is enhanced area that sorrounds the mass in Gd-DTPA MRI. Pathologic examination revealed that it was inflammation.
