Studies on lymphocyte subsets for the differential diagnosis between non-A, non-B viral hepatitis and drug induced liver injury, and on the role of Ia positive cell in lymphocyte stimulation test.

Peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets in acute and convalescent phases were examined in 11 patients with drug induced liver injury and 9 patients with NANB acute viral hepatitis. In drug induced liver injury, T4/T8 ratios were decreased below 1.0 with an increase of OKT8 positive subset in acute phase and returned to normal in convalescent phase. In NANB acute hepatitis, T4/T8 ratios were normal in both acute and convalescent phases, thus indicating its capability to diferentiate drug induced liver injury from NANB acute hepatitis by examination of T4/T8 ratios.<BR>Ia antigen on the surface of Ia positive cells was found to be necessary in LST reaction, indicating its essential role as antigen presenting cell to stimulate the drug specific T cell.
