Effect of Micro-Structure on Creep of 25% Chromium Steel

Creep tests have been carried out at temperatures ranging from 600°to 800℃ with commercial 25% chromium steel and fairly high-purity iron-25% chromium alloy of various grain sizes. Attention was paid to the difference in the mode of precipitation arising from annealing treatments, which would mask the grain size effect. Comparative tests were also made of the tensile properties and the hardness at elevated temperatures. The results on creep were explained on the basis of the atomic diffusion in metals.
