The magnetostriction and the magnetization at room temperature in Ni-Co alloys were measured after isothermal magnetic annealing at high temperatures under external fields of various strengths, which was made till the time change in the magnetostriction and magnetization were completed. In γ-phase alloys, the effect of magnetic annealing on the magnetostrion at room temperature beings to appear at about 330°and reaches soon its maximum range and becomes small with the rise of the magnetic annealing temperature, eventually vanishing at the Curie point. The relations between the change in the magnetostriction and the magnetic annealing temperature or the annealing duration at room temperature is almost similar to those at high temperatures, that is, the change appears at low temperature and its amount is large as the field applied during annealing is large and the duration of annealing is long. With the progress of the effect, the negative magnetostriction in an ordinarily annealed state becomes small or even turns positive, and the initially positive striction becomes large. The relations between the change in the maximum permeability at room temperature and the magnetic annealing temperature or its duration are almost similar to those of the magnetostriction, and there is an optimum strength of the field to be applied during annealing for the improvement of magnetization at room temperature. In ε-phase alloys, the effect can be observed only in γ-phase at high temperatures.
