The induced magnetic anisotropy of iron films formed on silica substrates by evaporation in a magnetic field was measured by torque magnetometer. The results obtained are as follows: (1) The axis of easy magnetization does not coincide with the direction of magnetic field, h, applied during evaporation and the direction of this axis is considerably changed from specimen to specimen. (2) The uniaxial anisotropy constant, K_u, does not depend on H_d. (3) It is difficult to get K_u as a unction of the film thickness. (4) K_u decreases with increasing substrate temperature and begins to increase again at about 300℃. (5) K_u ends to vanish after a prolonged magnetic annealing. (6) Estimated alues of the rotational hysteresis integral range between 1.3 and 2.4 or all films examined. In order to investigate the origin of the uniaxial anisotropy, several actors are discussed. The directional ordering of imperfections may 'e probable. It may be necessary, however, to consider the minute.
