It was found experimentally that a discontinuous expansion of a magnetic reversal nucleus occurs in a uniformly magnetized ferromagnetic substance (Perminvar wire) due to varying external tension. This phenomenon is caused by a change of surface energy of the boundary of nucleus due to varying tension. Basing on this idea, the critical strength of tension for the discontinuous displacement of the nucleus boundary was calculated. The results obtained agreed well with the measured value of critical tension. From these results it is to be concluded that 180° magnetic domain boundary is displaced discontinuously by the action of varying external tension.
