Direct Observation of Anti-Phase Domains in Ordered Alloys

Recent studies on the anti-phase domain structures in ordered alloys by transmission electron microscopy are surveyed. An irregular network of anti-phase domain boundary images of incompletely ordered Cu_3Au presents a striking contrast to regular arrangements of domain boundary images of CuAu II and Cu_3Pd (α") which are typical of ordered alloys with long period. The meaning of satellite reflections appearing in electron diffraction patterns of long period ordered alloy is discussed.
