On the Sintering Velocity of Powdered Metals. I : A Mixture of Nickel Powder and Copper Powder

The process of sintering was investigated with the mixed powder of copper and nickel, which are of complete mutual solid solubility, by X-ray back-reflection method and by magnetic analysis. The relation between the alloying grade and the sintering duration was examined at various temperatures and under various pressures ranging from 9 to 28 ton/in^2. It is concluded that the sintering velocity increases at first with pressure, the rate of increase being decreased continuously, until it reaches a constant value at the pressure of 20 ton/in^2, and that, for further increase of pressure, the velocity retains a constant value. From the data obtained, the activation energy of intergranular diffusion between copper and nickel was computed.
