Local-Phonon Model of High T_c Superconductor Based on Layered Perovskite Structure

A local-phonon model is proposed to account for rather large mass enhancement and anomalously large pressure dependence of the transition temperature observed in (La_<1-x>M_x)_2CuO_4 (M=Ba,Sr,…) with the layered perovskite structure. The motion of Cu ion along the c-axis of the elongated CuO_6 octahedron is assumed to play a role of the localphonon. Maximum of the transition temperature is attained where the potential for the displacement of Cu ion becomes shallow double-well. Large pressure dependence of the transition temperature is expected to occur on both sides of its maximum.
