High-Oxygen-Pressure Synthesis of Superconducting YBa_2Cu_3O_<7+y>

Preparation of the overdoped superconductor YBa_2Cu_3O_<7+y> was reexamined. Heat treatment of YBa_2Cu_3O_7 under high oxygen pressure produces YBa_2Cu_3O_<7+y> along with increasing amounts of other phases: Ba_O_2 and an oxide mixture of chemical composition 1/2Y_2O_3+3CuO+(0.25〜0.45)O_2, as more oxygen is supplied. Even when the oxygen content 7+y far exceeds 7, the onset of the superconducting transition temperature remains unchanged at 91〜92 K, whereas the volume ratio of superconductivity is ultimately reduced to less than 40% of that of YBa_2Cu_3O_7.
