Crystallization of 107 K Superconducting Phase and Partial Melting in the Bi-(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O System : Electrical Properties of Condensed Matter

Formation of the superconducting phase with T_c=107 K in the Bi-(Pb)-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system was studied for specimens with various nominal compositions. Examination of sintered specimens revealed that the 107 K phases crystallized in air in the temperature where partial melting takes place. In the strict sense, it is impossible to obtain a pure ceramic consisting of the 107 K phase because of the presence of a small quantity of a solidified liquid phase. Unlike the Pb-free 107 K phase, the Pb-containing one showed zero electrical resistivity at 105 K even if it was annealed at a low oxygen pressure.
