High-Pressure Synthesis of Superconducting (Cu, C)-1212 Compound (Cu, C)Ba_2(Y, Ca)Cu_2O_z

Superconducting 1212 phases, (Cu, C)Ba_2(Y, Ca)Cu_2O_z, were synthesized for the first time. Superconducting transition temperatures (T_cs) of the Ca-containing 1212 phases are 〜80 K regardless of considerable variations in Ca and C contents, while T_c is 45 K for the Ca-free 1212 phase. The low T_c is due to the high Y content of the Ca-free 1212 phase. A structural difference was found between C-rich and C-poor 80 K phases by electron microscopy; the former showed 3a- and 2a-type satellites, while the latter did not.
