Reversed Domain Generation in Co-Cr Films

X-band ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectra and Kerr loops were investigated in Co-Cr films with perpendicular anisotropy produced by sputtering. A hysteresis phenomenon was observed in the X-band FMR spectrum between increasing and decreasing magnetic fields. The origin of the hysteresis is attributed to the generation of reversed domains which occur prior to the beginning of domain wall motions in a very thin (0.02 μm) film when the magnetic field is reduced. The magnetic field width of the reversed domain generation in Co-Cr films increases with increasing film thickness. The coercivity of a Co-Cr film is not determined solely by the generation field of reversed domains.
