The ionization states of tungsten, rhodium, tantalum, platinum, molybdenum, iridium and niobium were investigated. Rhodium and platinum field evaporated predominantly as doubly charged ions. The predominant charge state of the other metals was three. There were no differences in the evaporation rates among these metals. But relative abundance ratio of different charged ions changed with the applied field strength. The most abundant charge states of molybdenum and iridium were different from the others.
