Nucleotide Pools in Soybean Nodule Tissues, a Survey of NAD(P)/NAD(P)H Ratios and Energy Charge

The NAD^+/NADH ratio was 12 in whole soybean nodules tissue, but only 2 in bacteroids, as a result of the high concentration of NADH. By contrast, NADP^+/NADPH ratios were less than unity in both nodules and bacteroids, being 0.28 and 0.37, respectively. The adenylate energy charge values in bacteroids and nodules, 0.37 and 0.39, respectively, were remarkably low, and were in sharp contrast to the normal value of 0.83 in root tissue.
