10-Thiaanthracenes類(第2報)9-Alkoxyphenyl-および9-Aryloxyphenyl-10-phenyl-10-thiaanthracene類の合成

9-Alkoxyphenyl- and 9-aryloxyphenyl-10-phenyl-10-thiaanthracenes (VII, XIa-c) were synthesized by the reaction of corresponding thioxanthylium perchlorates (VI, Xa-c) with phenyllithium. The thioxanthylium perchlorates were derived from thioxanthenols (V, IXa-c), which were prepared from thioxanthone (IV) and Grignard reagents. Unfortunately thiaanthracenes thus synthesized were not crystals but very stable powders. They possessed characteristic properties of thiabenzenes and were much different from thioxanthenes (VIII, XIIa-c, XIII) in appearance, solubility in various solvents, melting point, and nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, and ultraviolet spectral data. However, these thiaanthracenes were very similar to each other in chemical properties. These results, indicated that the influence of alkoxy or aryloxy substituents in C_9-phenyl group is hardly observed on the properties of thiaanthracenes and that thiaanthracene ring possessed a large ring current.
