The structure including the absolute configuration of a new glucoalkaloid, 3, 4-dehydro-5(S)-5-carboxystric-tosidine, isolated from Peruvian Una de Gato (Cat's Claw, original plant: Uncaria tomentosa), was confirmed by synthesis starting from secologanin and _L-tryptophan.
