A novel TOC-biomass measurement technique for the quantification of the biomass content of an anaerobic digested sludge was established. This method is simple, rapid and accurate. The biomass obtained by this method was compared with measured DNA-biomass values and a good correlation was observed as expressed by the linear regression equation, DNA=0.0096 (TOC)+23.38 (r=0.89)
