We examined kinetically the growth of organic oxication and nitrification in an activated sludge process. By analyzing the experimental results, the following kinetic constants were determined : Y=0.337;b=0.00845 day^<-1>;k=5.68 day^<-1>;(K_s)=0.582;n=0.73;Y_N/α=4.17; b_N=0.053 day^<-1>;ak_N=0.138day ^<-1>;K_N=3.41 mg total kjeldahl nitrogen (TKN)/l The "existence ratio" of nitrifiers in the activated sludge(a) was determined to be 0.00354. With the kinetic constants determined, the relationship between t_s and effluent quality and the distribution patterns of influent carbon and nitrogen were clarified.
