Development of a Case-Based Reasoning System for Abnormal Vibration Diagnosis of Rotating Machinery

Rotating machinery is widely used in the industry. If the rotating machinery has a fault, we can detect the fault using vibration or noise diagnosis. However, in diagnosing rotating machinery, a worker who doesn't have expert knowledge needs the help of a vibration diagnosis expert. However, qualified vibration diagnosis experts rare. So, this paper proposes the development of a case-based reasoning system, which is able to share the past experiences of vibration diagnosis experts. We construct a standard case base using many technical reports made by vibration diagnosis experts. The developed system is able to operate on Internet. The worker can retrieve a previous case that is most similar to new problem using personal computer in the industry field, and he or she can solve new problems using solutions from a previous case. In order to verify system performance, we adapted it to an electric motor problem.
