Atomic Orbital Moment Sum Rule for Isotropic X-Ray Absorption Spectrum in More-Than-Half Filled Valence Shells

The relationship between the deviatior'n of core spin-orbit branching ratio f'rom the statisticalone in isotropic core-to-valence x-ray absorption spectrtttta (XAS) and the valence atonaic orbitaltnotnent is discttssed on the batsis of syrraraaetry cornsideratiorr for naore-than-half filled valenceshells in the high-spin state. The deviatiota is shown to be jcroportional to the ztaargnitude of'atoraaic orbital moment. This finding ;tpplies not only to f'errotaaaxgnets bvtt also to systetns withno net naagnetization strcla 21S ?tntiferrouaaagnets and patrarnatgnets. By exaunining errors of' tlaeSL1lfl rule in some exarnples, an acttral trtilization of' tlae SUIII rtrle is proposed.
