Ferromagnetism-to-Spin Glass Phase Transition and Strong Magnetic Field Effect in Ni-Mn Alloys

The electronic structure in the ground state ;mud the response to the magneticfield of Ni-Mn alloys are investigated with u:so of the Hartree-Fock-CoherentPotential Approximation (HF-CPA) approacFt. The calculation whiclh distin-guishes Mn atonis having antiparallel moments? to the bulk magnetization fromtho?se with parallel moments shows the occurrence of the second ord[er phasetransition at the critical Mn concentration from the ferromagnetic state to thespin glass state in thc absence of the magnetic field. The calculated spirn suscep-tibility and bulk magnetization as functions of' the magnetic field and the Inconcentration well reproduce the recent experintental results.
