Resonances and Magnetic Circular Dichrosim in Valence-Band Photoemission Predicted at Ni 2p Threshold for Ferromagnetic Nickel

We report tlae calculation of the 3d X-u'ay photoenaission spectrum (3d XPS) in fer-romaguaetic Ni at the Ni 2p threshold energy with circularly polarized liglat on thebasis of an extended Anderson model, wlaicla includes intraatornic multipole electron-electron interactions. Our study predicts that a strong resonance and a ntagnetic cir-cular diclaroism (MCD) pattern claaracteristic of tlae resonant plaotoemission3d'-I-w=2p'3d'=3d'A-e appear with increasing'incident photon energy across thesatellite region of the Ni 2p.7. absorptic>n. We consequently propose a new criticalcheck of tlae existence of 3d' ("two-hole bouxad state") in the ixaitial state, which hasbeen discussed to explain the Ni 2p X-ray absorption and its MCD, and 3d' ("three-hole bound state") in the final state of I'd XPS.
