Resonances in 3d Electron Photoemission Predicted at Ni2p Threshold for NiCl_2 and NiO

We report the calculation of the 3d X-ray photoemission spectra (3(l/ XPS) in NiCl.and Ni0 at the Ni 2p threshold photon<:nergies, on tlae basis of a cluster model tak-ing into account the intraatomic multipole electron-electron interactions. By utilizingmuch stronger resonances and rich struc:tures at the Ni 2p threshold compared withthe 3p threshold of the second-order j>rocesses 3d'A-co=p'3d"'=3d"-"rc withn = 8 and 9, we show that the spectrum clan give conclusive informatioxa about the 3dconfiguration of the initial and final states in these systems.
