Magnetic Circular Dichroism of 3d-2p and 4d-2p X-Ray Emission in Rare Earths

We discuss feattrres of rnagnetic circtrlar dichroisrta (IVICD) of' X-ray ermission spectrtnzn in the3d-*2p and 4d-)2p ratdiative transition (3d-2p XES and 4d-2p XES, respectively) cotnbinedwith the 2p core excitation with the circtrl;orly poltrrized light irx rare earths on the basis of anatomic calculation including the ftull rnvrltiplet. The calculated 4d-2p3 /2 and 3d-2p3 /2 XIS andIVICD for Cd" are in good agreenaent with the recent exjveriraaental resvrlt for Gd rnetal. Anapproxiua'xate separation of 4d5 /2 and 4d3 /2 cotnponents as well as of 3d5 7 2 and 3d3 77 is shown tobe possible in the present spectroscopy, xvhich is itnpossible in an ordinary 4d core spectroscopies.A dispersive MCD spectrttm of XIS in both the 2p3 77 and 2p) /2 core excitations, a difT'erence inthe emitted photon energy dependence of the sign of MCD spectra Tcetween the two excitationsand an opposite tendency of MCD spectra between the less-than-half' and tnore-than-half filled4f shells are disctussed in terzns of the 4f-3d (or 4d) exchange interactions for the magnetizedHund rule grotrnd state.
