Circular Dichroism in the 3d and 4d Core Photoabsorption for Ferromagnetic Ce Compounds -Interplay of Hybridization,Spin Orbit Interaction and Crystal Field-

The Ce 3d- and 4d-core photoabsorption spectra (3d XAS and 4d XAS) of fer-romagnetic mixed valent Ce compounds are calculated on the basis of the impurityAnderson model. The model takes into account the Coulomb interaction producingmultiplet structures, the spirt-orbit interaction, the crystal field effect and themolecular field acting on the 4f spin. The calculation shows a strong circulardichroism even for the Ce magnetic moment of -0.5 7a.. The dichroism is further-more shown to be a powerful method to measure the spin and orbital contributions tothe 4f moment. On the basis of the calculation, the 4f magnetic state of the fer-romagnet CeRh.Bz is discussed.
