A statistical mechanical basis is given to the liquid-like model of superionic conduc-tors which has been proposed recently by the authors. It is shown that the heavy tonmass introduced ad hoc in the previous reports to characterize the immobile latticeions, is related to the mean square displacement of the lattice ion and to the coarsegraining time which appears in the time averaging operation. 'l'he idea underlining inthe liquid-like model, objectivc:, immediate application and further direction are alsodiscussed.
