• Distinct dielectric anomalies have been found in the hexagonal modification ofBaTi03 at 60 K and 222 K. X-ray studies have revealed that a structural distortionfrom the prototypic hexagonal structure occurs at 7'g= 222 IC. Below T,), a veryweak diffraction line has been detected, which is the forbidden line for thehexagonal space group of P6./mmc; and the diffraction intensity I in the newphase is given approximately by IccT. -T. The transition at 222 K is veryprobably of the second order. A possibility is speculated that a ferroic transitiontakes place below T,).
