Monte Carlo Studies of Transport in a Reversed Field Pinch

Transport in a realistic reversed field pinch (RFP) configuration is studiednumerically for neoclassical and MHD fluctuation transport mechanisms, by MonteCarlo simulation. The results indicate that neoclassical transport due to guidingcenter drift is one or two orders lower than classical transport due to finite gyro-mo-Lion and thus is not important for RFP plasmas. However, the electron diffusioncoefficient corresponding to a typical MHD fluctuation configuration of the magneticReynolds number .5: 10', and equilibrium p=S% is about 10' cm'/ sec which is twoorders higher than the classical transport, and thus is an important transport lossmechanism for RFP plasma confinement.[Monte Carlo simulation, electron transport, RFP plasma, MHD fluctuation, lj anomalous diffusion, MHD instabilityl
