Competition between the impurity pinning and the commensurability pinning is in-vestigated by studying the one-dimensional charge density wave (CDW) systemsunder the external sinusoidal potential, -B cos 0, where 0 is the phase of CDW. Thepinning of 0 is examined by both numerical and analytical methods which turn out toyield the consistent results. It is shown that both types of pinning coexist for all valuesof B and that the state pinned by impurities undergoes gradual change into the statepinned by the commensurability potential as B increases.
