ESR Line Shapes and Rotational Modes in the Structurally Incommensurate Phase of {N (CH_3)_4}_2CoCl_4 Crystal

ESR line shapes for the tetrahedra SO. in /7-K.S0. type crystal with symmetryD".g-Pmcn have been calculated as a function of the direction of the appliedmagnetic field and the rotation of the tetrahedra in the incommensurate phase.The effect of the one-dimensional incommensurate modulation on the line shapedepends strongly on the relative orientation between the magnetic field and therotation axis of the tetrahedra. The analysis has been applied to ESR spectra ofMn ion in {N(Cl-l.).}.CoCl.. The result supports the previous conclusion thatthe rotational axis of the Coal. tetrahedra is parallel to the travelling directionof the modulation wave.
