Helical Magnetic Structure in CsCuCl_3

Neutron diffraction measurements were made on single crystals of Cs;CuCl.. Thesezase of Cu" ion helix was found from nuclear reflections to be predominatntlyright-handed. The magnetic reflection data could be interpreted satisfactorily byconsidering a triangular spin strtacture of .he1ica11y modulated fe;rromagneticchains: The naagtaetic nxoments lie iua the c-plane and rotate by 5.1 :L0.1 ' alorvgthe chain or the c-axis, while the moments rotate by 120' in the c-plane. Themasnitude of the maxuaetic momerxt is 0.58-1:0.01 tts at 4.2 K. The cxritical exro-nerat of the magnetization, 73 was found to be 0.358.j.0.O15 arourxd the Neattemperature, 10.70.E.0.O5 K. We presetat a model that the helical modulationalong the c-axis is caused by the antisymmetric exchange (Dzyaloshin:sky-Moriya)iuateraetion characteristic of the crystal symmetry of CsCuCI.. The mc>del predictsa right-hataded magraetic helix in tlae present case.
