Magnetic Properties of α and β Mn Containing 1 at% Transition Metals

Magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity were measured on α and β Mn alloys containing 1 at% Cr, Fe, Co and Ni. The Neel temperature of the α Mn alloys was found to increase linearly with increasing atomic number of solute metals except Ni. In β Mn alloys, change of high-temperature magnetic susceptibility due to alloying suggests the magnetic moments of about 1μ_B on Cr, Fe and Co atoms while no moment on Ni atoms.
