Ionic Diffusion in Superionic Silver Compounds

The diffusion constants of impurities, Cd" " and In" " " ions as well as themobile Ag" tons were measured in superionic a-Ag.S, a-Ag.Se and a-Ag.SIwith the a-Ag[ structure using tracers, "'Cd, "'In and ""Ag. Unexpectedly,high mobilities were observed also for the multivalent impurity tons. The obtaineddiffusion constants of the Ag" ions in a-Ag.S and a-Ag.Se arc in good agreementwith the reported values. It was concluded from the mobile ion dependence ofactivation energy for diffusion that in addition to the cation-anion and the electronicpolarization, the repulsive and the cation-cation interaction play an important rolein the interionic potential.
