The electronic structure of substitutional impurities, Cu, Zn, Ga, Go, As, Se, Brand Kr in ferromagnetic nickel is calculated with a muffin-tin potential modelfo.r the purpose of discussing the hyperfine field I(.j and the spin-lattice relaxationtime T.. The calculated H.j on the basis of the direct Fermi contact interactionwith valence electrons is in good agreement with experimental data. A detaileddiscussion which is substantiated by the calculrttion is given on the underlyingmechanism of the systematic variation of H.j imu a period of the Periodic Tablewhich is observed in other periods as well as th<c one mentioned above. (7'zI)='arising from the direct Fermi contact interactiort is concluded to show a similarsystematic variation, although the orbital relaxatibn mechanism makes animportant contribution in the case of Cu to make it exceptional.
