Magnetic Properties of Zn_<1-x>Ni_xCr_2S_4(0≤x≤0.40) with Spinel Structure

Magnetization and susceptibility measurements were made on polycrystalline sam-pies of Zn. .Ni.Cr.S. from 4.2 K to 800 K in magnetic fields up to 16.5 kOe. Theinverse susceptibilities except for ZnCr.S. show a non-linear behavior characteristic ofa ferrimagnet. This indicates that the system has a magnetic moment on Ni" incontrast with NiRh.S. and the sign of Ni" - Cr" exchange interaction is negative.The saturation magnetization of the sample (x=0.40) is equal to 3.0 -F- 0.1 p./moleculeat 4.2 K. Electrical resistivity of the sample (x=0.40) was measured between 77 Kand 300 K, and it is semiconducting (3 x 10'Q cm at R. T.).
