A gexteral theory is presented for tlte difftmsion of a xtttulti-ion species pjasnaaac?-oss magnetic field true to electrostatic flucttnations, It is shown that the diffusionfltxx d ue to wave-jcarticle interactions is not necessarily proportioutal to the densitygradient of the particle species of interest. Tlae resttlt is applied to the invpturitydiffusion dtme to tlaose drift waves whiclt exist itt a single ion-species plasnaa. The dontimtant nonlinear effect is the induced scattering of W'8VCS on ions and theresulting diffusion couastant of the host ions is given by the Kadonatsev forxnula,D'-v')t'/k"oa, wlaere y, ct:t and k are resj'>ectively tlte grow'tlt rate, frequency andwaventun?ber of tlae drift wave. Tlte imaapurity djfl'trsjon coatstant is positive (ornegative) if the ixnpurity Larunour radius is s?taaller (or greater) than tlte host-ionLarutaour radius, a?td beconaes greater than the host diffusion constant if tlaespectrunt is localized to the tmnstable region.
