Stationary one-dimensional propagation of Larvgmmuir waves trapped in a localdensity cavity in a plasma is investigated for the case in which the frequencyspectrttm of the Langmuir waves is broad as corrtpared with the ton acousticfrequency, but in which their wavenunabers are conuparable to the inverse scalelength of the density cavity, Analytical solutions for the density cavity, whichtraps many Langmuir wave modes and which is self-consistent with the ponder-omotive potential coming from thesc eigenmodes, are obtained. The Langmuirwave envelopes exhibit oscillations at tire beat frequencies of the different eigen-modes. These solutions are valid whena the intensity of the trapped Langmuirwaves normalized by the electron thermal energy is much greater than the electron-to-ton rnass ratio. -
