To elucidate the properties and functions of cancer cell membranes, rosette formation of human gastric cancer and mucous membrane cells with allogeneic and autochthonous erythrocytes was investigated. 1) Gastric cancer and mucous membrane cells made rosette with allogeneic erythrocytes, suggesting that these cells had receptor for allogeneic erythrocytes. 2) Gastric cancer cells made rosettes with autochthonous erythrocytes, indicating that the cells had receptor even for autochthonous erythrocytes. However, no rosette formation of gastric mucous membrane cells with autochthonous erythrocytes was observed and possible explanations for this were discussed.
