Plasma PGE and PGF levels were estimated in 73 patients with bronchial asthma, and some factors which are related with PGs were investigated. The following results were obtained. 1. Plasma PGE and PGF levels in healthy male subjects were 1.77±2.76 ng/ml and 0.74±0.87 ng/ml, respectively. PGE levels tended to be higher than PGF levels in both sexes. No difference was seen in these levels between male and female healthy volunteers. 2. Plasma PGF levels (p<0.01) and PGF/E ratios (p<0.01) were increased in the presence of asthmatic attacks. In patients with pulmonary tuberculous, PG's tended to be lower than those in healty volunteers and those seen in the absence of attacks. 3. No difference was seen in PGs levels between the atopic type and non-atopic type of asthma. PGF levels were increased after attacks in both types of asthma, as compared with attacks (p<0.05). 4. No definite correlation was seen between PGs levels and peripheral blood eosinophil or basophil counts or serum IgE.
