It has long been desired to develop a non-invasive apparatus for taking care of the severe patient especially hospitalized at RCU, ICU and CCU etc. On the basis of this concept, capacitance pneumograph which measures the lung volumes has been developed and tested. Here, the air itself between the subject and fixed electrode constructs the condenser capacities. The system detects the extremely small amount of electrical capacities produced by respiratory movement through the condenser bridge circuit and demodulates. Obtained data showed an almost rectilinear relationship with that of the conventional method (γ>0.99). However, the calibration procedure and the postural effect are the remaining problems to be solved, although these are the inevitable ones.
