The Dials-Aider reaction of 1-phenylsulfonyl-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (1) with 1,3-dienes was carried out to give the [4+2]cycloadducts in good yields. The carbon chain extension of the adducts by the reaction of the sulfonyl-stabilized carbanion with alkyl halides and the reductive desulfonylation proceeded without affecting the trifluorontethyl group. Trifluoromenadione (6h) was prepared in 71% yield through the reaction of 1 with 1-raethoxyisobenzofuran (2h).
